Dear Bands, Groups, Artistes, Performers, Djs and assorted creative types..
One of the most important things to Trash is hearing, playing and supporting new music from whoever and wherever it may be coming from. We love receiving demos from people who are active in music and serious about making a go of it, and indeed a lot of the bands we've been showcasing are friends and patrons of the club, or people who've sent a song our way thats grabbed us somehow, as well as established acts we like. It's a great feeling to be part of a genuinely creative scene, and we're really happy to help further peoples artistic visions, the fact that so many of you are getting something out of the night and bringing it back in a different form is really quite amazing and special.

Having now found ourselves in the position where a lot of you are sending in demos and mixtapes, we fell it's only fair to let you in on how we go about booking the bands and guests that play at Trash, because a lot more people than we ever expected are approaching us looking for a gig!

First up, because of the near prohibitively expensive costs of putting a live act on (kit hire, sound engineers, roadie types, extra hours etc) and the limited depths of our pockets, we simply can't afford to put a band on every monday. When we initially started booking bands, it was intended to be an occasional extra treat to complement the club night. Then, damn it, we found out there were just too many fabulous new acts out there we wanted to put on, and it became a semi-regular fixture of the night!

Secondly, this doesn't mean you should stop sending you're demos in! We honestly do listen to them! You might not automatically get a gig at the club as a result - but you'd be surprised at how many of the tunes going down at Trash every week are demos or bedroom mixes sent to us by people who don't have a deal / manager / clue, and you'd be even more surprised at how quickly word of mouth spreads as a result of sticking your neck out and handing over your recordings.

Previous Trash guests such as Bloc Party, Cazals, Simon Bookish, Patrick Wolf, and Mylo all first made contact with us by handing over demos to Erol, Rory, Mavs or James - garnering a few spins on the Trash decks - and by continuing to prove themselves to be grade A brilliant over the months that followed we gave in and offered them a gig!

So, in a nutshell, we like to put bands on live once they've exploded on the dancefloor or in our world. We never really know where the next really big tune is going to come from, so keep our ears busy, but don't feel slighted or ignored if you don't find yourself strutting your stuff in the lounge immediately after giving us your record.

Oh, and a handy hint, if you're sending us (or anyone else) a demo - put your phone number or e-mail address on it! That is to say ACTUALLY WRITE IT ON THE DISC! We can't tell you we like it if you don't give us a means of contacting you!!
